The software environment for Unicorn Hybrid Black
Unicorn Suite is a software environment of ready-to-use and programmable applications for Unicorn Hybrid Black, which always ships with it. With Unicorn Recorder, Unicorn Bandpower, the Concentration Performance Index, the Brain Buddy, Platformer and Puzzle games, the C API and the .NET API, you acquire, visualise, record and analyse brain activity in real time. Unity Interface, Speller, Simulink Interface, Python API and Blondy Check can be added.
Unicorn Recorder acquires, visualises and records data from Unicorn Hybrid Black or Unicorn Naked BCI without interruption. It processes raw EEG with predefined cascaded notch and band-pass filters; OSCAR filtering suppresses artefacts and extracts particular frequencies such as alpha and beta. It reads triggers and streams data over LSL or UDP.
Unicorn Bandpower visualises the power of brain waves on 8 channels: continuous bandpower estimates for delta (1–4 Hz), theta (4–8 Hz), low, mid and high beta (12–16, 16–20, 20–30 Hz) and gamma (30–50 Hz). Through the UDP interface these values feed real-time game applications.
The Unicorn C API talks to the device from C/C++ applications and turns the raw binary stream into analysis-ready numbers. The UDP and LSL interfaces stream data to external applications. With the optional Python API, Simulink Interface and Unity Interface you can build your own analyses, 2D and 3D BCI games and VR applications.
Unicorn Speller offers boards of letters, numbers and control characters with the P300 paradigm and comes with Unicorn Painting. Unicorn Blondy Check ranks images by the user's interest from the P300 component, which suits neuromarketing research. The Concentration Performance Index measures cognitive performance between 0% and 100% in real time during the focusTest; it was first developed for high-altitude medicine.
In the Puzzle Game, the player selects puzzle pieces mentally and rotates them in seconds. In the 3D Platformer built with Unity, the BCI player focuses on flashing boxes to burst them and free the coins. Brain Buddy offers an inclusive game for children with disabilities: in multiplayer mode one player steers the avatars by keyboard while the other changes the game world by BCI.
