g.SCARABEO

Active EEG / EMG / EOG electrodes

Every EEG recording depends on the quality of the electrode. g.SCARABEO active EEG electrodes integrate a miniature preamplifier inside each electrode, reducing artefacts and interference before the signal travels through the cable. The sintered Ag/AgCl surface stays stable in long recordings, the compact build suits high-density EEG, and because the electrodes stay in the cap, set-up is fast and experiments are reproducible.

The signal is cleaned before it enters the cable

EEG recording with g.SCARABEO electrodes in a g.GAMMAcap

Each g.SCARABEO electrode holds a miniature preamplifier. Because the signal is amplified at its source, cable movement artefacts and 50/60 Hz mains interference are reduced before it travels through the cable. Light electrodes reduce motion artefacts, the electrode spacing keeps bridging to a minimum, and recordings stay stable through long experiments. Designed for laboratory and real-world neuroscience.

Set-up

64 channels in about five minutes

g.SCARABEO electrodes with the g.GAMMAcap and g.Nautilus

A streamlined application places 64 channels in about five minutes and gives artefact-free data, a significant step forward in usability. No abrasive skin preparation is needed. Electrodes stay mounted in the cap, so set-up is faster and experiments reproducible, and the easily removable holder rings allow custom electrode layouts too.

  • No abrasion
  • Removable holder rings
Cap sizes

g.GAMMAcap: from children to adults

g.GAMMAcap caps in several sizes with accessories

g.SCARABEO electrodes are used in the g.GAMMAcap2. For children there are Mini (32–36 cm), Midi (37–43 cm) and Maxi (44–48 cm); for adults, Small (50–54 cm), Medium (54–58 cm, fits 95% of adult participants) and Large (58–62 cm).

Beyond EEG

EMG, ECG and EOG in the same system

Recording with an EEG cap and EMG electrodes on the arm

g.SCARABEO is used not only for EEG but for EMG, ECG and EOG recordings too. g.GAMMAclip active physiological electrode clips take the body signals, and the g.GAMMAbox connector box links the electrodes to g.USBamp. The electrodes work with the g.GAMMAsys and g.HIamp active electrode boxes; with g.HIamp, impedance is verified through the g.SCARABEO Z electrode.

Example study

A 16-day neurofeedback and motor imagery dataset

In one study, the EEG of 29 participants was recorded with a 32-channel g.Nautilus Pro Flexible fitted with g.SCARABEO electrodes, at 250 Hz, through a 16-day neurofeedback and motor imagery intervention. The resulting dataset was released openly for research on neurofeedback, motor imagery, decoding accuracy and PTSD-related interventions.
